Job Description

OVERVIEW: Founded in 1979 in direct response to rising rates of hunger and homelessness in North San Diego County, Interfaith Community Services works to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness by Helping People Help Themselves. Interfaith is the most comprehensive social services agency in North County, providing both immediate safety net services and long-term, life-changing programs designed to meet the holistic needs of people in crisis. Together, in partnership with 250+ diverse faith communities, more than 650 recurrent volunteers, and a growing staff of over 200, Interfaith provides a safe haven and pathway towards self-sufficiency for more than 17,000 community members annually.

$500 Retention Bonus! This position is eligible for a retention bonus ($250 paid at six months and $250 paid at one year of employment!)

WHAT YOU WILL DO: This position is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of all agency facilities to ensure facilities remain presentable, operable and in efficient condition. Responsible for performing routine building maintenance, general cleaning, and maintaining a safe and secure living and working environment for clients, staff and visitors.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

• Inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair
• Respond to emergency requests for repair services and acts as the primary point of contact for all building issues (e.g. climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repairs, etc.); perform immediate cleaning duties as necessary
• Perform minor electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools
• Perform minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.)
• Perform minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
• Prepare surfaces and paint various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, refrigerators, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable environment using various painting equipment and related tools
• Make residential units ready for new move-ins (e.g. dismantles and installs furniture, hangs pictures and shelves, and cleans rooms, hallways, and living spaces)
• Ensure work conducted complies with all environmental, health and safety, standards established by federal, states, county and city laws, ordinances and regulations, and Interfaith policies and procedures
• Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, corridors, stairways, parking lots, and other work areas as necessary
• Order parts and maintain required documents
• Maintain storage and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner
• Promptly notify supervisor (as well as other appropriate staff) of any problematic facilities issues, or any other problems that arise
• Participate in all staff meetings and trainings
• Ensure that properties always meet standards to pass Federal, State, County, and Local inspections
• Perform additional duties as assigned
